There is something about wearing all black that makes me feel just a little more confident.  No matter what you throw together, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with an all black look.  Before getting pregnant, black skinnies were my go-to.  Probably 4 out of 7 days I was wearing them.  Dressed up or dressed down, with boots or sandals or heels…the most versatile piece in my wardrobe.  Fast forward to today and a 37 week baby bump, they are rare to make an appearance in the rotation.  Mostly because I really just can’t stand a button at this stage.  But every now and then, I suck it up and dress them up for a dinner or a night out.  I love a good skinny jean paired with a heel and a pretty blouse.

Happy Birthday to our sweet Rylee girl!  This weekend Rylee turned three and we celebrated with a Frozen inspired princess party, per her request.  If you asked me a few years ago if I would ever be throwing a princess party, the answer would certainly be no!  But when all your daughter talks about is Elsa and Anna and blue cake, well, you give the girl what she wants :)  Tastefully and subtly of course.  Trying not to overwhelm myself before this baby comes, I threw a small party with just family.  I made brunch and set up a dessert bar with cake and cupcakes and cookies.  The cake I ended up buying from Elizabethan Desserts and topped it with handmade paper flowers.  Using the same method as I did in this tutorial.  I made the cupcakes and tried my hand at piping the frosting (I used this buttercream recipe which turned out amazing!)  It was surprisingly really fun for me and I was secretly (now not secretly) pretty proud of myself.  I am not much of a baker, but I can kind of see how it can become addicting if you give it some time.  And in my DIY nature, I whipped together Rylee’s dress and star headband and wand a few nights before.  Handmade always wins over here.  Apparently not for Rylee though, who much preferred the store bought Frozen dress my mom got her to my own!  Maybe she will appreciate my efforts one day! ;)  But for now I’ll chalk it up to her being three!  Metallic Flash tattoos were a hit with all the kiddos and the hideous Disney tats were strategically placed on her belly for easy coverage! You should see her little tattoo covered body right now!

We love you so much Ry.  You’re such a blessing and you bring so much joy to our family!  I love being your momma and getting to watch you grow.  I love your spunk and contagious laugh, your sweet sensitive spirit and even your stubborn determination, because it reminds me much of myself.   My heart overflows with love for you.  I can’t wait to share in years and years of many more memories with you!

4 more weeks.  The countdown is on.  I am SO excited to meet our little guy, and quite honestly, more than ready to have him out of my tummy!  This pregnancy has brought it’s fair share of aches and pains, but of course, it’s all worth it in the end.  It’s funny how women somehow forget how hard this whole process is in time, and want to do it all over again! I suppose some people never get it too hard, and others get it a lot harder than me…but the end result is all the same and I suppose that’s what keeps us coming back for more!  I’ve been getting asked a lot lately if we are “ready” for a second.  My honest answer is, not really.  How do you “get ready” for something like this?  Of course, we can have all the material things prepared for him, but I’ve always been one to take experiences as they come.  It’ll probably be a little overwhelming in the beginning, and I’m sure a second child will bring on a new set of challenges,  but I also know that adding Cru to our family will fill us with just that much more love and joy, and that will always outweigh any challenge we come across.

Now i’m off to spoil Rylee with a princess birthday party.  I never thought I’d be throwing a “princess” party, but when there’s nothing your daughter wants more than Elsa and Anna balloons, you give in.

Kimono , Necklace , Sunglasses, Leather Rancher Hat, Wrap Clogs c/o Free People // Dress c/o Lovers & Friends // Bracelets and Bag c/o Vagabond

Baby boy is on a major growth spurt right now and I am definitely feeling the growing pains!  Counting down the weeks until he is here!  33 days to go.  But if he’s anything like his sister….he will be a little early to the party.  I certainly wouldn’t complain ;)

Currently loving my new stacking bracelets and cuff from Vagabond.  They are perfect for everyday wear, and I love that the stacking bracelets have the mix in metals.  Vagabond also designs these beautifully crafted buttery leather totes.  This bag is large enough to carry all of my “baby extras” but definitely doesn’t fall into the traditional diaper bag category.   These clogs are a little out of character for me, but I’ve grown to really love them.  They are an FP exclusive style and the wooden heel is the perfect height for me.  Any more height and my arches are cramping up at the end of the night.  Another joyful side effect of this pregnancy!  Oy.

This week I will be busy preparing a birthday party for a special little (almost) three year old!  I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by and how much Rylee has changed.  I am looking forward to seeing her fall into the roll of big sister soon.  I know she will be great.  For now though, I am soaking up the last few weeks of her being my one and only!
